Changing of the Guard, but not the Mission

Reflection on Wellness Section Newsletter Editorship

LevinMay2013It is three o’clock in the morning and I just came into the house after watching the meteorite shower early this morning. As I pondered the journey which the amazing flashes of light took before I saw them, I reflect on my journey for the last 4 years, as the Wellness Section Newsletter editor/secretary. I am honored to have had the opportunity of not only serving the ACEP organization, but to continue to contribute to the profession which I truly love to have been part of since first starting my practice back in 1977. Over the last 11 years, it has been through championing wellness and preventing burnout among our colleagues- as I myself was a statistic of burnout, causing me to leave active practice. I left active practice with so much more to offer not only for our patients, but for our profession. This year we hold new elections for the next Wellness section newsletter editor/secretary and I look forward to the transition.

Time outs in Emergency Medicine are quality measures intended for the safety, health and well being of patients. Correct procedure, correct patient, correct location, correct medication, correct instruments, etc., must be meticulously verified.
