Proposed Rules for 2010 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Released 
The moratorium imposed by Congress on the 21% cut in Medicare payments expires Feb. 28. Unless Congress acts, the conversion factor will be reduced from $36.06 to $28.40.

In June 2006, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that, effective January 2007, the Work Relative Value Units (RVUs) for the five emergency medicine evaluation and management codes would each increase from 8.1% to 60%, or about 25% across the board. While the actual financial impact for each ACEP member depends on several factors, including patient volume, payer mix and frequency distribution, this is good news all around for emergency physicians.
