Let Your Voice be ACEP’s Voice – Become a Member of the New ACEP Speakers Bureau

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), the premiere organization dedicated to advancing emergency care, is delighted to announce a new Speakers Bureau program to promote the specialty of emergency medicine to the public, such as civic and community clubs, business organizations, county governments, and youth groups. 

ACEP and its spokespersons are the voice of the specialty of emergency medicine and for the hundreds of millions of emergency patients treated each year. Many of these speakers are part of ACEP’s Spokespersons Network, which consists of about 200 members with expertise in all areas of emergency medicine, and who have been professionally trained through workshops offered at the Leadership and Advocacy conference and Scientific Assembly.  These emergency physicians are featured every day in news stories on policy issues, such as medical liability and overcrowding, to consumer health and safety issues, such as first aid and injury prevention.   

The new Speakers Bureau will expand opportunities for members to represent ACEP and speak directly with the public on key issues. It also will promote emergency physicians as specialists and experts and by strengthening relationships with communities, will help create an environment for ACEP to mobilize public support for critical policy issues, such as medical liability.

Guidelines for becoming a member of ACEP's Speakers Bureau:

• You must be an ACEP member, because you will be representing ACEP.
• You must be knowledgeable about and promote ACEP's policies and positions. 
• You must already be knowledgeable in the subjects you choose to speak about.
• Speakers should be aware of more than just their topic.
• You may not solicit speaking fees or honorarium except for reasonable travel expenses.

Process

If you are an ACEP member who is interested in becoming a part of the Speakers Bureau, please complete the online form.

Your application will be reviewed by ACEP staff and the Public Relations Committee, which will forward speaker recommendations to ACEP’s President for approval. Once approved, speakers will be notified via mail and asked t o submit a brief bio (no longer than 300 words) and a high resolution photograph (b&w or color) to be included in a Speakers’ Bureau catalogue. It would also be helpful to submit an updated resume or CV.

As a member of the Speakers Bureau, your name, e-mail address, state, area(s) of expertise and bio will be included in a publication produced by ACEP, as well as posted on ACEP’s Web site. This information would be made available to anyone interested in obtaining a speaker. Interested groups would inquire to you directly about potential speaking engagements and work with you to coordinate any necessary arrangements.
