Dr. Al-Hodaib contributed to the establishment of the largest JCI-accredited state-of-the-art emergency department in the Middle East and the training of undergraduates and post-graduates. He is a co-founder of the Saudi and Arab Emergency Medicine Board Programs, which he helped to achieve Saudi Health Specialties Council accreditation. He also served and directed the Saudi Mission Humanitarian Disaster Relief Hospitals in Bam (Iran), Darfur (Sudan) and Kashmir (Pakistan).
Dr. Al-Hodaib remains active in the Saudi and Arab Boards and the Pan-Arab Society of Emergency Medicine. He was a former program director and country representative on the Arab Board. Dr. Al-Hodaib is active in establishing emergency medicine as a respected specialty in his country and the Middle East.
Patrick Connell, MD, FACEP

A board-certified emergency physician from Arizona, Dr. Connell has practiced in Arizona since 1975. He has been part of Arizona ACEP since 1989 and has served many years as a board member, is a past president and has served as an ACEP councillor for 10 years. In addition to being a hard-working emergency physician, Dr. Connell served on the Arizona Medical Board and was the first president to represent the emergency medicine specialty.
Dr. Connell currently spends approximately six months per year in Roatán, one of the Bay Islands of Honduras, serving as the clinic’s volunteer administrative and medical advisor. The clinic currently sees more than 800 patients per month. With adequate funding, Dr. Connell hopes to open an inpatient birthing center and pediatric inpatient ward in 2009.

Dr. Fay Catherine K. Gloria has contributed to the quality improvement of emergency medicine residency training in the Philippines by spearheading continuing education activities for emergency medicine residents as academic affairs chair of the Philippine College of Emergency Medicine and Acute Care.
Dr. Gloria is founding president of the Philippine Association of EMS Personnel, which aims to connect military and civilian EMS systems, make the interface of the pre-hospital to emergency care smooth, and connect volunteer and government EMS groups with emergency medicine physicians. Dr. Gloria also serves as medical advisor to various volunteer EMS and rescue groups in the Philippines.
Alberto Jose Machado, MD

Dr. Alberto Machado, an internist, cardiologist and emergency physician, has been a key leader in the development of emergency medicine in Argentina. He was the first president and a founding member of the Argentinean Emergency Medicine Society, and he is also past president of the Argentinean Resuscitation Council. Passionate about improving emergency medical care, he has worked with ACEP board members and other organizations in Latin America to promote the recognition, development and expansion of the emergency medicine speciality in Latin America.
Dr. Machado has written two emergency reference books for Latin America, with the latest published this year. He is vice president/president-elect of The Latin American Cooperative Association for Emergency and Disaster Medicine (ALACED), the most important regional emergency medicine organization in Latin America. Dr. Machado has been active in the International Federation of Emergency Medicine and is a true leader in Latin America and international emergency medicine.
Ronald Stewart, MD, FACEP

Dr. Ronald Stewart became an ACEP charter member in 1972 while practicing in Nova Scotia, just before joining the second class of emergency medicine residents at the LA County/USC Medical Center in Los Angeles. Following his residency, he was appointed the first medical director within the Los Angeles paramedic program. He then initiated the University of Pittsburgh’s emergency medicine residency program, served as medical director of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Safety and developed Pittsburgh’s EMS system. He then served as minister of health for Nova Scotia.
Dr. Stewart is a prolific researcher, and has published on numerous topics, including pain management, trauma, cardiac care and EMS. He has received numerous awards, including the "Mills Award" and the "Canadian Citizenship Award." He received Canada’s highest honor in 1993 when he was admitted to the Order of Canada, and more recently to the Order of Nova Scotia. Both credited him with helping "create a new medical specialty."
