Professional Liability Insurance for EMS Medical Control Activities
Reaffirmed October 2008 by the ACEP Board of Directors
Approved by the ACEP Board of Directors June 1999
This statement replaces Council Resolution CR026 titled, "Insurance for Medical Control Activities" approved September 1985
The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) believes that emergency physicians provide valuable expertise in the medical direction of out-of-hospital emergency medical services (EMS) activities. The delegation and supervision of EMS activities, including service as an EMS medical director, are among the ordinary and usual duties of emergency physicians. Medical liability insurance policies for emergency physicians should fully cover these duties.
